BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ASSOCIATION

The Ghana Association of NSW had its humble beginnings in the late 1970s when a group of
Ghanaian students formed the Union of Ghanaian Students. During the mid-80s when the number
of Ghanaians started to increase, the idea of an association to bring all Ghanaians together
was muted. The founding members included Dr. Vincent Attuquayefio, Mr Kwasi Owusu-Akyeampong
and Mr Solomon Armah. In 1988, the association became incorporated under the Associations
Incorporation Act, 1984 governed by a constitution. The main object at the time was to help
new Ghanaian arrivals to settle in New South Wales.


MISSION STATEMENT

To make the Ghanaian community a model African Community in Australia. This entails
raising the profile of the Ghanaian community through Ghanaian cultural promotion and
pursuing excellence in technology, performing arts, business and academia. This requires
a united community support. To create a balance between the Ghanaian culture and the
influence of other cultures on the youth. This balance could be achieved through diplomatic
efforts by both adults and the youth. To work with other sister African organizations towards
a united African community in Australia.

EXECUTIVE OFFICERS

The following officers were elected at a general meeting held on the 4th of November 2007 to run the
association. They succeed the old executive officers under the leadership of Mr. Tweneboah whose
term of office expired in November 2007 after four years of hardwork.
