Celebration of Ghana@60 – Sydney Activities


Activities marking Ghana@60 reached the crescendo on Sat. 11th of March with a dinner/dance at the Liverpool Catholic Club [LCC].

The event was graced by the attendance of Liverpool Mayor Councillor Wendy Waller, the Acting Ghana High Commissioner Mr. Sam Kumah, the Consul General Mr. Justin Betar and Ghanaians from inter-state.  Even with LCC’s main hall and adjoining rooms merged, it was a struggle to contain the more than 400 adults in attendance.

The president of Ghana Association of NSW [GHANSW], Ms. Franklyn MacBruce in her welcome address expressed GHANSW’s joy as host and hailed the work of the planning committees both national and local. She showcased Ghana’s vast mineral wealth and opportunities to harness it.

The Mayor of Liverpool cherished the rich multi-cultural fabric of Greater Liverpool and the plan to even go deeper to cement the existing multi-cultural bond among all communities.

The Acting High Commissioner welcomed all and thanked the committees that had worked relentlessly to make the event a huge success starting with soccer gala, then thanksgiving service and the dinner/dance. He narrated the peaceful transitions that the nation had witnessed making her a model for democracy in Africa. He also highlighted on the anniversary theme “Mobilising for Ghana’s Future” and encouraged all to play their part to make the nation what the founding fathers had hoped for.

Being a night of awards also, community members who had distinguished themselves in various endeavours were presented with awards and accorded the needed recognition at this national gathering.

The rest of the night was devoted to eating, drinking and dancing to contemporary Ghanaian music with DJ James at the controls.
